Volunteer Opportunities

There are many opportunities to help promote and save Dayton's irreplaceable historic neighborhoods and landmarks.  The following committees welcome new ideas and engaged volunteers.
  • The Policy and Advocacy Committee advocates for improved services,  policy and legislative changes, and innovative programs  to address challenges facing historic districts and landmarks such as vacant properties, zoning and building code enforcement, and investment incentives. Partnering with the private sector as well the City of Dayton, Montgomery County, and other entities is a key function of this committee.
  • The Events, Fundraising, and Membership Committee develops and organizes social and educational events to share best practices in historic preservation and to attract new and diverse residents to historic districts. The committee also implements creative ways to increase membership and financial support to achieve Preservation Dayton's mission and goals.
  • The Marketing and Media Committee creates and increases awareness of Preservation Dayton through traditional, digital, and social media. The committee works closely with PDI's other committees to achieve PDI's advocacy, educational, and fundraising goals. Creating compelling and current content for PDI's website(Weebly), Facebook, Instagram, media releases and other media channels is a key function of this committee. Promoting PDI's walking tours of Dayton's Historic Districts is also an ongoing objective.
Originally founded in 1983 as the Dayton Area Coalition of Historic Neighborhoods, the predecessor organization to PDI, innumerable members and leaders have been champions and advocates for the Dayton region’s historic communities and built environment.
