2004 COMMUNITY PRESERVATION AWARD WINNERS

On June 24, 2004, Preservation Dayton, Inc. (PDI) honored 18 individuals and organizations with Community Peservation awrds for their contributions to advancing the cause of historic preservation in Dayton.

"These awards reflect the fact that Dayton and PDI have one of the country's most active and effective community-based historic preservation organizations, " said congressman Mike turner, founder of the Preservation caucus of the United States Congress. "The Dayton model was an important component in the creation of the Preservation Caucus.

NEIGHBORHOODS

Dayton View: John A. Zaroba and Barbara Witt, for renovation of their home at 122 lexington Ave.

Huffman: Bill and Esther Bechler, for the restoration of their home at 83 Linden.

McPherson Town: Bill and Maureen Rain, for the restoration of the house at 115 McPherson.

Oregon: Dennis and Janet Neu, for 20 years of involvement and dedication to the community.

South Park: Lesley Kopack, for restoration of 236 Park Dr.

St. Anne’s Hill: Joe Ann Conners, for servce to the neighborhood.

Webster Station: P&R Communications, for restoration of the firm's headquarters at 700 E. First St.

Wright-Dunbar Village: James and Jackie Towns, for the restoration of their home at 114 Horace.


CITYWIDE AWARDS

City of Dayton, for the Restoration of the Fitch House, 4th and Williams, in Wright-Dunbar Village

Paul Laurence Dunbar State Memorial, for restoration of this historic site

The Oberer-Thompson Company, for rehabilitation of the building that now houses the Brixx Ice House Tavern at 1st and Sears streets.

CityWide Development, for the Fairgrounds project and other community revitalization efforts in dayton neighborhoods.

Urbieta Construction, for redevelopment work in the Huffman Historic area and E. Third St business corridor.

Jeff Wray Architects, for restoration of the office building at 204 S. Ludlow.

Buck Run Windows andDoors, for restoration of their headquarters property on S. Ludlow St.

Miami Conservancy District, for restoration of the original Deeds design at the organization's headquarters building on Monument Ave.

National Park Service, for the Invention of Flight Interpretive Center at W. Third and Williams Streets.

Willis "Bing" Davis, for the restoration of his art studio and gallery "Ebon-Nia" at 1135 W. Third St.
