PDI Strategic Long Range Plan -
Mission: (To promote historic preservation and) To promote, protect and enhance Greater Dayton's architectural heritage, it's setting and impact on the qulity of life.
Goals:
- To promote historic preservation by advocating the restoration, renovation and rehabilitation of historic structures and settings as economically viable activities and enhancements to the public welfare.
- To promote historic preservation by participating in and advocating a common sense approach to urban planning as it affects historic districts, areas, sites, buildings, structures and their contiguous neighborhoods.
- To promote historic preservation by facilitating the stabilization and continued improvement of historic districts, areas, sites, buildings, structures, and their contiguous neighborhoods.
- To promote historic preservtion by encouraging communication and creating a cohesive network among historic districts, societies and preservationists, local and regional governments, the business sector and the community at large.
- To promote historic preservtion by taking advantage of opportunities to act as a trustee or steward of historic properties.
Objectives
- Enhance PDI's role as a liason between the historic districts to identify and address common issue s and concerns
- Maintain vehicles for regular communication with membership and community at large including regularly scheduled meetings and a regularly published newsletter
- Expand knowledge of PDI and its mission throughout the region by public presentations, distribution of the newsletter, public events and other means
- Continue the annual recognition program for businesses, groups and individuals that have contributed to the goals of PDI
- Increase membership a minimum of 15% a year with a gol of reaching 500 members by 2003
- Take a formal position on public issues related to the mission of PDI
- Establish vehicles for influencing governmental decision making at all levels affecting historic preservation
- Insure tht increased enforcement of the general building code, the historic overlay district zoning code, and the Landmarks Ordinance
- Seek increased partnership opportunities with the Montgomery County Historical Society, the 2003 Committee and other appropriate groups
- Pursue an officially designated seat for PDI on the Landmarks Commission
- Secured a formal role in the strengthening of the Landmarks Ordinance.
